Opobo War Canoes regatta Fiesta
Opobo War Canoes regatta Fiesta is an age long heritage of ijaw ethnic group today 29/12/2021, at Opobo kingdom consisting of about 67 war canoe houses and 14 polo”s, it is an exciting, nostalgic and entertaining display of one of the ijaws cultures. The Opobo kingdom regatta Fiesta is a major celebration that form part of our thick history. Opobo with it’s tourism and cultural potential took a new twist today as King Dr Dandeson Douglas Jaja Jeki V, The Natural Ruler and Amanyanabo of Opobo and the council of Alapu mounted their respective war canoes. These Gigs with their distinguished names and ensigns such as Kweni, Long John, BOA, Ibani Na Tima, Kiepirima etc are well decorated with flags and proper number of paddlers in their set attires swinging in rhythm to the drumming on board with colourful display and performance in commomeration of 200 years of birth of King Jaja of Opobo. 29 December 2021
